Ask the Aromatherapist

Each month Emma Fairbrass CAHT (Certified Aromatherapy Health Therapist) answers a question on Aromatherapy.

Question
I have a number of essential oil bottles and I wonder how best to store them?
Daisy, WA, US

Answer
I keep mine in a lovely lined wooden box I bought at Winner's. I have seen students with plastic rubbermaid-type containers, but as essential oils eventually breakdown plastic I don't recommend this. Spills in the box lead to a real mess! Cheapest is probably to go to a craft store and buy a nice hinged wooden box. You could even paint it. My mum, Jacqueline, keeps her classroom essential oils in an antique Chinese travel box...but at home she has an old biscuit tin! Just remember a dark, cool place is best.
