Question
Emma,

Thanks for the fun tips for men last month. As February is Valentine’s month I am wondering how I can use aromatherapy on February 14th to weave a little magic into my celebration with my significant-other? Some Valentine Aromatherapy tips please.

Hello Ronnie,

I love that you asked this. So, I’m going to suggest a few of my favorite things.

How about, instead of a meal out, you try cooking your significant other a special dinner. Make it a selection of their favorite foods.

Easy way to jazz up any room. Even the kitchen table. Is to turn down the overhead or ambient lighting and instead light some candles. Dump the heavy rock and play soft music.

And now for the power of Valentine Aromatherapy

You can easily make a simple center-piece by taking a small bowl of water and floating flower petals on top. Any bowl will do for this. Use some scented flowers and voila, you’ve got something special.

But when it comes to setting the space after dinner, I go with a tea light diffuser.

For spicing up this romantic setting use a diffuser. Diffusers are usually made of glass or porcelain with a reservoir to place water and essential oils in. With a space for a small tea-light underneath. The essential oils float on the surface of the water and are gently heated by the flame.

As the water evaporates the room fills with your specially chosen fragrance. Suggestions to follow:

I suggest these essential oils

3 drops Bergamot
2 drops Ginger
3 drops Lavender

For a gently aromatic and subtle infusion in the air. The first hit of the bergamot is a happy citrus, that melts into a lavender cloud and is brought down to earth with the warmth of ginger. Lovely!

However, if you are planning some “sexy time” after your meal, try a blend that is more seductive.
Add the following to a diffuser:
2 drops Jasmine
3 drops Black Pepper
3 drops Orange

Jasmine is the king of the essential oils, with a multi-layered intensity that’s been a known aphrodisiac in many cultures. The base notes of the black pepper add a mysterious spiciness. And again, the citrus, in this case orange lifts our spirits.

And make a note: these tips are not just for Valentine’s Day but anytime you want to create an intimate space.
