Is Reflexology and Pregnancy a good combo? Is Reflexology safe in all trimesters for baby and mom? Also if you work the reproductive system, does it trigger contractions in the first or second trimester?
Reflexology improves circulation and helps the body normalize, so is always considered a safe therapy. Therefore it may be used during pregnancy.
But don’t take my word for it. Read on and get the facts.
Quite simply, if there was a magic button on the foot that would induce a spontaneous abortion, then we would have found it by now. And women would not have suffered as they have over the years. There’d be no ‘illegal’ procedures.
No back-street abortions performed in un-sterile conditions!
But…when discussing pregnancy and reflexology we should be careful. Very careful.
Firstly, the reproductive reflexes and meridians may be tender. As the body is undergoing changes. So gentle pressure is highly recommended. I have even seen ‘puffy’ reflexes; uterus and ovaries.
The foot is truly a mirror of the body!
But most importantly:
That said, if someone is nervous about having a treatment at any stage through their pregnancy, then you should NEVER press them to have a Reflexology. Sometimes the body knows things that we don’t and sometimes intuition is kicking in.
And if you aren’t comfortable as the therapist. Or you’re a mum-to-be and not comfortable. Speak out.
Offer or try something else instead. I’ve found both moms-to-be and babies love Reiki. And of course, hypnotherapy has been used for years to alleviate distress during both pregnancy and labor.
Final words on Reflexology and Pregnancy
Reflexology in the last trimester is fabulous for reducing oedema and easing discomfort. And it’s great to look after yourself before baby arrives, because once baby is here…LOL!
So, yes to Pregnancy and Reflexology!
