Sleep like a Baby

Big thank you to the awesome Dominique. During her in-class study time, we worked together on an Aromatherapy Blending project. And Sleep Like a Baby got 10/10.

As she was having some sleep issues, it became a big theme. Eventually leading to her absolutely fabulous research project on sleep. But in the meantime, she developed the following blend.

Using the power of aromatherapy, not just as a sweet scent, but noting the chemical composition of the natural essential oils. This blend was taken home by the rest of the class. So, tested by Aromatherapists in training. And it was a huge success.

Commercial Sleep Blends are often adulterated with unnatural products. Which may be labeled as ‘pure’. Which any aromatherapist who has had an iota of professional training knows: HAS NO LEGAL MEANING. Yes, the word PURE isn’t legal. It implies a sense of natural and untouched.

But legally PURE doesn’t mean a thing. In fact, pure can mean: Purely made in a laboratory. That’s right, without any natural input at all.

So, just a reminder or two.

Essential oils are concentrated plant essences. Some are highly toxic. IE poisonous. They can burn the skin, especially mucous membranes. And should always be diluted and never taken internally. Just in case.

Also, its important to know the Latin binomial, or its ‘proper’ name. When essential oils are listed by just their popular name, you don’t actually know what you are using. The Latin binomial is used to indicate 1) genus, or group of plants and 2) species.

For example, there are 39 species (types) of Lavender! Each has a different chemical combination. The naturally occurring chemicals make the scent. A trained Aromatherapist is like a Sommelier. However, the chemicals are what make the essential oils work in different ways.

Complicated? To begin with. But so easy when you are trained. Curious, then click here to learn more.

This 10/10 blend created in the classroom, is safe to use on most people. With no contraindications. However, always check for allergies or sensitivities. Test a little on your wrist to see if your skin reacts. We can’t be responsible for the quality of essential oils you are using.

Sleep like a Baby

40ml Sweet Almond oil
10ml Rose Hip oil
5 drops Santalum album L (Sandalwood)
8 drops Boswellia carterii (Frankincense)
20 drops Citrus bergamia (Bergamot)
16 drops Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender)

Measure into a glass container. If you have a nice bottle handy, this makes it easier to store and pour. But some old-school purists like to mix in a bowl and then pour what they need into their hands.

Give it a good shake. Roll the bottle between your hands. And it’s ready to use. Use the blend to gently massage oil into body.

This subtle blend will help ease anxiety, depression, insomnia and helps aid with maturing skin. – Dominique
